Hazbin hotel part 2: Cosplay

 Hazbin hotel part 2: Cosplaytime!

All the best animated films have a dedicated fanbase, and among it cosplayers who in their part spread awareness of their object of admiration. You can tell that Hazbin Hotel is doing well when you search the characters and find a lot of fanart and cosplays. It's amazing how popular the pilot became in social media.

Because Halloween was approaching and I do love to make some cosplays here and there, I decided to make a costume and chose the main character Charlie from Hazbin hotel. She is very passionate, full of ideas and cheerful personality and I really relate to her a lot, so it felt like a fitting match. My dear friend Mona was also excited about the idea and decided to join to Hazbin hotel cosplay as Charlie's girlfriend Vaggie.

When the agreement was made, it was time to start research about the characters, especially of course about the outfits and what kind of solutions other cosplayers had found.

So it is time to start the cosplay project! We ordered wigs and I bought Charlie's fabrics, buttons and other stuff that was needed. I already had a white shirt and black dress pants, but wanted to make the suit from the beginning.

When the wig arrived I made a fast makeup test and learned what to do and what not, it really helped me not to mess up the red cheeks again.

Then it was time to make the suit! I downloaded free pattern from moodfabrics called Ercilla suit. There is also a guided tutorial for it, and it was very helpful but sometimes a bit confusing.

Normally you would print the pattern, but my printer wasn't working and I didn't have the guts to go to library and print over sixty pages of pattern so I ended up drawing them trough my computer screen. Yep, you red that right. At that point I was actually still determined to make also the pants but my friend advised me not to, because I already owned similar ones.

"Fine! I don't make the damn pants!"

Charlie's suit is red from the outside and black from the inside, so I kind of had to make two suits. Starting from the cutting the fabrics.

Sewing the front and sides together.

Sewing fronts and backs together, after this only had to sew the sleeves and both sides of the suite together.

After that there is no pictures because we got really busy with the cosplays. We practically sewed and glued Mona's cosplay together at the preparty. Getting ready was super fun and when we finally were ready we went to meet our classmates, excited about our costumes.

The end :D

The Great Mouse Detective

Childhood favorite This was hands down one of my favorite animated films that I saw when I was a child. I remember going often to a video rental shop with my family and every time we went there and I got to choose the movie, I would choose The Great Mouse Detective. Over and over again. Talk about obsession. It must have been a very bad financial decision for my parents not to buy it for me. I forgot about it for years but as a teenager for some reason I suddenly remembered that it exists and how much I loved it and started to look for an opportunity to watch it again. (Is this how normal teenagers behave?) Around that time I was reading Detective Conan manga and really liked detective stories so that's probably why I felt a need to find it. Turned out that my friend had the movie so I was able to borrow it (why can't I ever own it??) and watch it again. I remember being very nervous, what if I don't like it anymore. Fortunately it was as good as I remembered and my obsessi...

Why I want to become an animator

Why I want to become an animator Well I did not want to be an animator when I was young. I didn't think I was able to draw well even when I was certainly drawing a lot. Drawing was only one way to express my ideas that I had for stories. Other outlet was writing and that must have been one of my first dreamjobs, to write books about the stories of my lively imagination. I loved reading comics and watching cartoons and me and my twin sister where able to do that a lot. Probably because that made the twins behave and sit quietly and focused for a while.  I remember how we would act the happenings in the cartoons in our playtime. We would get a sticky tape roll and pretend that it was movie tape and we were filming, acting and later editing a movie. We would create backstories and a world for our toys and have very detailed story series for them. I remember that some kids had trouble keeping up with our plays, but some were instantly excited and into the ideas and usually those became...
2D animation Getting started with tools In the old days animations were drawn on special paper and then transferred onto clear acetate sheets called cels for painting. Then they were photographed frame by frame. Sounds like terrible amount of work, right? Well, hand drawn animators still create their animations frame by frame  using very similar principles as in the beginning. So no laughing for poor  animators of the old times. No need to give up either. Some things have changed! Cels are not in use anymore after scanning drawings into the computer  for digital coloring became possible, and now many hand drawn animators  skip paper altogether and draw directly into the computer using drawing tablets. So yes the process is getting faster all the time. Now that the idea is to become an animator and we have dropped paper and cells from the tools and have a fast glance on my desk where I have my XP-Pen ready for drawing digitally, it's time to choose (2D) animati...
