Hazbin hotel

What's this and why is it trending in every media platform?

That was my first thought about Hazbin hotel when I started to see these interesting characters and red color everywhere. After repeatedly seeing cosplays and fanart I gave it a chance and haven't regretted at all! I watched some released parts of the Hazbinhotel pilot that Vivziepop had on her youtube channel and fell in love with the style and the characters. Later the ready pilot was released and I felt so happy to be on board so soon with it.

Vivienne Medrano 'Vivziepop'

The creator of Hazbin hotel is Salvadoran-American artist and animator Vivienne Medrano who in 2012 started a webcomic called Zoophobia that gained a large cult followingg. After that she graduated from School of Visual Arts in New York City and majored in traditional animation  He senior thesis film Timber won the 2014 Dusty Award. She became known when her animated music video version about Die Young by Kesha exploded on Youtube and boosted her early career. She is the creator, director, lead animator, lead writer, storyboard artist, character designer, and producer of Hazbin Hotel

Hazbin hotel is describes as an adult dark comedy musical cartoon. It was Funded with Vivziepop's Patreon, merchandise sales and stream donations. It's 30 minute long pilot episode released on YouTube at the end of 2019 and it has now over 46 million views. The story doesn't end to that because luckily it was officially picked up for a full-fledged TV series by A24.

Hazbin hotel has been praides about it's beautiful artwork, amazing characters and because it's very unique combination as adult musical comedy It has gotten a lot of hate too, which is not very suprising because it's adult series about characters who live in hell. Some people think that the drawing style looks innocent so may attract younger audience. "Hazbin Hotel is one of those iconic pieces of art that, years later, will be looked back on as the starting point of a new era in a particular medium" and "Hazbin Hotel is ignorant and sick and it's morally wrong to portray perverts and sins as cute, sexy or funny. Hazbin Hotel is a tragic abuse of talent." are feedbacks that describe the diversity of opinions about the pilot.

Of course I think that Hazbin hotel is brilliant and I'm very much inspired by how Vivziepop was able to bring her story and characters into real animation pilot! Here are some important factors that seemed to have played a role in her success:

 • Just start somewhere

• Make something you're passionate about

• Quality of content, your own style

• Be strategic

 • Engage with and know your audience

• Collaborate with other artists

 • Figure out the funding

Christmascard animation project

Christmas Card Animation Our final task for the Introduction to Animation course was to create 15 to 50 seconds long season greetings animation in a medium of our own decision. I'm sharing my process here because this is an animation project blog after all! First I had to figure out the idea and I did that fast to save time and went for a quite literal Christmas card animation. At first I was planning five different scenes but while making the storyboard I figured there wouldn't be enough time for the animations in the scenes, so decided to limit the scenes for two different main scenes and then there would be page flipping of the Christmas card. Here is a GIF of the final storyboard: I got a lot of good feedback that opened my eyes about the complexities of the animation ahead. First, the page turning would be difficult in that style and would work better with silhouette content. Same goes with the main scenes, because of their detailed looks you are expecting a story to unfol...

Why I want to become an animator

Why I want to become an animator Well I did not want to be an animator when I was young. I didn't think I was able to draw well even when I was certainly drawing a lot. Drawing was only one way to express my ideas that I had for stories. Other outlet was writing and that must have been one of my first dreamjobs, to write books about the stories of my lively imagination. I loved reading comics and watching cartoons and me and my twin sister where able to do that a lot. Probably because that made the twins behave and sit quietly and focused for a while.  I remember how we would act the happenings in the cartoons in our playtime. We would get a sticky tape roll and pretend that it was movie tape and we were filming, acting and later editing a movie. We would create backstories and a world for our toys and have very detailed story series for them. I remember that some kids had trouble keeping up with our plays, but some were instantly excited and into the ideas and usually those became...
